About us

Slovenski oktet first sang in 1951 at the Slovenian Philharmonic, and ever since it has been regarded as the most representative Slovenian male vocal chamber ensemble.

The octet’s repertoire is exceptionally broad and diverse – from the Renaissance to folk songs of all nations, from Classicism and Romanticism to works by contemporary composers. It devotes special care to Slovenian song, which it presents with particular passion both at home and among fellow Slovenians around the world.

Over more than seven decades, its distinctive vocal culture and exceptional artistry have helped shape Slovenian choral culture. During this time, more than 40 singers, with boundless energy and a love of singing, have helped build this Slovenian cultural legend.

Legacy

Over the decades, the outstanding reputation of Slovenski oktet has inspired the formation of many other vocal ensembles. Following its example, more than a hundred such chamber ensembles have been founded in Slovenia and among the Slovenian communities in neighbouring countries, preserving this noble tradition.

In 1971, Slovenski oktet initiated the founding of the Gathering of Slovenian Choirs in Šentvid pri Stični, which to this day brings together thousands of singers from Slovenia and all over the world.
